Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Chad Ochocinco (formerly Chad Johnson) is making the most of his off-season by pursuing a double-dose of reality-TV stardom.

Announced last week as one of ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ upcoming celebrity hoofers (he’s partnered with Cheryl Burke), Ochocinco also will be fronting his own VH1 dating series. It is called – romantically enough – ‘The Tournament.’

Set to premiere in July, the 10-episode series finds the 32-year-old NFL star dipping his cleats into the dating pool, played out like a bracket-style tournament. And somewhere, Barney Stinson feels envy.

The competition kicks off with Ochocinco touring the country to pick 85 women that may be interested in dating him. He then will narrow the playing field to a Sweet 16 – four “lucky” ladies from each region of the country (Northern, Western, Southern and Central).

Those finalists get put into a bracket, and proceed with one-on-one as well as double dates with Ochocinco. The winner of each dating “face-off” gets a “game ball” from Chad and moves on to the next round. Sixteen become eight, and then four, until finally the two women left standing have a “championship date” with the gridiron hunk.

“Hopefully,” says the press release for the show, the winner of ‘The Tournament’s championship ring “turns out to be Chad’s greatest catch this season!”

Really, it’s like a Harlequin novel.
