This year’s crew of ‘Celebrity Apprentices’ fill Donald Trump’s requirements: nasty, competitive, they like to fight. In addition, the class of 2010 is full of clowns, says Trump, who has now seen his new recruits in action.

Although funny lady Joan Rivers won 2009′s ‘Celebrity Apprentice,’ and 2008 belonged to America’s Got Talent’ judge Piers Morgan, who isn’t a cut-up but has a good sense of humor, this season, which premieres March 14 on NBC, the comedy will be more evident, says Trump, who has a sharp wit himself.

“The cast has been very interesting – very tough, very nasty, but there is also a lot of fun,” Trump said in a ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ conference call with reporters last week. “So much funniness in respect to what happens. Joan and Piers, for example, were really nasty people hating each other. These people hate each other, but it’s also funny. That may be the biggest differentiation in the three casts.”

Although most of the show has been filmed, it is not completely finished. The live finale in which Trump picks the winner is in May. This year’s cast includes Carol Leifer, chef Curtis Stone, Darryl Strawberry and Sinbad.

Trump spoke to several contestants’ performances on the conference call last week. Here is a sampling of what he said about each:

Pro wrestler Bill Goldberg: “He’s very capable. And he’s a very tough guy, he is not easy to get along with. I don’t mean just physically tough, but in other ways. I have a lot of respect for him, but he’s a very difficult kind of guy. He’s very strong … He tried to intimidate people.”

Embattled politician Rod Blagojevich: “It’s pretty wild what happens. He’s pretty wild. It’s going to be very interesting, that I can tell you.”

Rocker Bret Michaels: “He is also different than I thought, he is a tough, tough cookie. And I was a little surprised. He was very strong. That said, he may have been fired early on. Strong people make mistakes. He has turned out to be very good, excellent.”

Ex-baseball player Darryl Strawberry: “Well, he has been a winner. What surprised me was how solid he is. I said, ‘Darryl, I am going to ruin your reputation. You are much more solid.’ I knew Darryl because I am a Mets fan. You know the power and potential he had. A lot of it was wasted because of some of his things. He still had a great career … Darryl turns out to be a great guy and great character, but a tough cookie. Any time you have a world class athlete, they are not there just because of the physical, there is something special.”

Pop icon Cyndi Lauper: “She has become so hot now because her best friend is Lady Gaga, who is the hottest thing out there. Lady Gaga loves Cyndi Lauper and they’re together all the time. She’s a big factor on the show.”
