UPDATE: Brooke Burke has landed the job as the new co-host of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ ABC has revealed. The Season 7 champ was announced as the replacement for departing cast member Samantha Harris on ‘Good Morning America‘ on Monday.

The Bachelor‘s Melissa Rycroft, former ‘DWTS’ finalist Mel B., and ‘ET’ correspondent Vanessa Minnillo were also in contention for the gig to be Tom Bergeron’s new wingman.

Eleven couples will compete on the upcoming tenth season of ‘DWTS,’ premiering March 22.

Earlier Story:

There’s some stiff competition going on at ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ and the season hasn’t even started yet.

Now that Samantha Harris is waltzing off the show, the co-hosting spot is up for grabs–and at least one ‘Dancing’ champ wants it.

Season 7 winner Brooke Burke revealed she’s in the running to land the gig, as confirmed by her very excited Tweet.

“Btw, the news about me hosting DWTS is true. I am screen testing next week for the job, fingers crossed! It would be amazing 2 be back!”

Burke has some experience hosting reality shows, but let’s hope the people making the hiring decisions did not see her turn as co-host of ‘Rock Star: Supernova’ back in 2006.

Burke isn’t the only former ‘Dancing’ hottie up for the gig, however. Comeback kid Melissa Rycroft, who was a finalist on ‘DWTS’ Season 8, is also in contention. The recently married ‘Bachelor’ reject has served as a correspondent on ‘Good Morning America’ and appears as a reporter on ‘Extra.’

There’s a third contender in the mix who also has ties to the show, albeit not as a contestant. ‘Entertainment Tonight’ correspondent Vanessa Minnillo, girlfriend of Nick Lachey, is also said to be trying out for the job. Nick’s brother Drew took home the mirror ball trophy on Season 2, and, incidentally, made a surprisingly entertaining fill-in for Harris in the past.

“They’re only testing those three on camera for now,” a production source tells E! News.

A decision is expected to be made in time for the Season 10 cast announcement on March 1. If none of the ladies lucks out, ABC’s back-up plan is to rotate in previous contestants to serve as Tom Bergeron’s wingman for the night.

Samantha Harris announced in January she was leaving the show to focus on her duties at ‘The Insider.’

As for who will be booty shakin’ this season on the show, the only big name rumored so far is Pamela Anderson.

The celebrity cast will be revealed during the season finale of ‘The Bachelor‘ on March 1.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ returns with a new season on March 22nd on ABC.
