You may be wondering why this didn’t happen in they heyday of sitcom movies like Bewitched, McHale’s Navy, Sgt. Bilko, The Beverly Hillbillies and The Brady Bunch, but better late than never. On the heels of the success of Get Smart, Gilligan’s Island creator Sherwood Schwartz is executive producing a new movie version of the classic castaway comedy, to be written by Brad Copeland. Once that’s done, they’ll start the search for a director and then casting comes after that.
Schwartz has said he’d like to see Michael Cera in the title role, and since Copeland has some Arrested Development writing under his belt, there’s a chance that could come to fruition. Producer Charles Roven said “The characters are so good, we think it’s going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day.” Dollars to donuts, this thing’s gonna be chock full of Lost jokes.
