Whispers of Katie Couric’s demise as the host of the ‘CBS Evening News‘ is nothing new amongst TV insiders, especially after word leaked in 2008 that network executives were eyeing to cut her contract short following the presidential election. However, rumblings that CNN’s Anderson Cooper might knock her off the air is new.
The idea that Cooper might become the new anchor of ‘Evening News’ appears to have developed following the Times mentioning Couric’s latest contract is nearing its end next year, although this remains indecisive.
“It is unclear whether Mr. Cooper was (or is) being considered by CBS executives as a replacement,” writes Brian Stelter, adding that neither CBS nor CNN would comment on the matter.
Working in Couric’s favor are the words of CBS News chief Sean McManus, who recently said that viewers can expect to see her as the nightly anchor “for a long time.”
