The stage is set for high drama on Sunday’s season finale of ‘Keeping Up with The Kardashians.’ Last we saw of the raven-haired brood, Kourtney locked longtime on-again, off-again boyfriend and baby daddy Scott Disick, out of her home after he argued with and embarrassed matriarch Kris while boozing it up in Vegas for Kim’s 29th birthday — a big no-no.
Scott’s maturity or lack thereof, has been an on going storyline in the Kardashian E! reality series and has been a point of contention between the two new parents. While Kris banned Scott from attending the Kim’s birthday dinner, he ignored her orders and drunkenly showed up anyway. “This is such a nightmare,” said a very embarrassed and angry Kourtney. “I totally thought he changed, and he’s such a f***ing child.”
It only got worse from there. After Kris instructed the waiter to cut Scott off from anymore of his alcohol supply, Scott grew furious and tried $100 bill in the waiter’s mouth after yelling at him repeatedly proved worthless.
Watch Kris Go Off on Scott:
It’s been a roller coaster season for the Kardashian klan, which includes kids Kourtney, 30; Kim, 29; Khloe, 25; Rob, 22; Kendall, 14; and Kylie, 12, and parents Kris and Bruce Jenner. There were major life-changing milestones, including marriage and babies, keeping viewers engaged and ratings climbing high.
Since its debut in fall 2007, the show has nearly doubled its audience, now averaging 3.7 million viewers, which has some people wondering why it is so successful. The Los Angeles Times said in their recent profile of the family, “Their popularity comes despite the fact that the sisters lack the talents that traditionally lead to superstardom and, some believe, partly because of it.”
It’ll be interesting to see how well the Kardashians do in a world increasingly saturated with pseudo-celebrities who continue to spring from the world of reality TV. That isn’t particularly new, but it now seems to catapult camera hogs to stardom at a breakneck pace, like it did with the ‘Jersey Shore’ crew. Some speculate that what sets this show apart from the general pool of nobodies and has-beens is the element of genuine family relationships.
“It’s a modern-type of wholesome,” Hollywood Life editor Bonnie Fuller said to the Los Angeles Times. “Despite everything that has gone on with them, they come across as a very tight-knit family, and that appeals to women.”
As the season comes to a close tonight with Part 2 of the finale, which culminates with the birth of Kourtney’s son Mason Dash (born December 14), viewers will be kept on edge until the next season to see the fallout from Kourtney and Scott’s relationship, Khloe’s fairy tale-esque romance with NBA star Lamar Odom, and Kim’s quest for balance in her professional and personal lives. Maybe Kim’s long-time boyfriend and NFL star, Reggie Bush, will finally put a ring on it – and no, we’re not talking about his new Super Bowl ring.
