That Sarah Palin is just full of surprises.

According to The L.A. Times, now that the former Alaskan Governor has her own catbird seat over at Fox News Channel, she’s rebuilding her return to politics by hand-picking some bright young Republicans that could use a boost from her star power.

And who better than another politician-turned-TV star-turned politician? Well, technically. Back in 1997 Sean Duffy was butting heads with his liberal cast mates on Season 6 of the MTV pop-culture hit ‘The Real World: Boston‘ by staunchly defending his lumberjack, conservative roots. Not exactly party material. But there’s one in every bunch.

Since then, though, Duffy has made good on his outspoken opinions by entering politics back home in Wisconsin and is currently in a race against long time incumbent Democratic Rep. David Obey. Obey is the author of the current stimulus bill that stirs up angry debate on politico TV shows, and Palin is a die-hard critic.

Addressing the issue on her Facebook page, Palin wrote, “On this first anniversary of the stimulus, let’s send a message to the big-spenders in Washington by helping Sean Duffy unseat the author of the stimulus. Let’s put government back on our side and get to work revitalizing America!”

Is Palin helping? Looks like it. Duffy exceeded his goals by collecting $2,000 more than his targeted $25,000 contribution starter fund.

Although Duffy is not your average Joe Six Pack, having the ‘Maverick’ Hockey Mom on his side may be just the kind of publicity he needs to unseat a 40-year House veteran. And Sarah Palin is clearly hedging her bets when it comes to payback time. Packing houses is what she’s good at, and it may come in handy when she makes a real bid at becoming the first woman President. We’ll see.
