Nicole Richie sure knows how to make a splash. ‘The Simple Life‘ star let it ‘slip’ that she’s engaged to long-time partner Joel Madden – on Monday night’s taping of ‘The Late Show with David Letterman.’
“Yep. i’m engaged. Very happy. Yeah we’ve been engaged for a while so your all kind of late on that. But Thanks for the hooplah all the same,” Madden Tweeted after the show.
Richie and the “Good Charlotte” lead singer have been together for three years and have two children – daughter Harlow, 2, and son Sparrow, 5 months.
It’s just the latest step in Richie’s transformation from wild child to reality star to fashion designer to mature mother and now, wife. For the kid’s sake, that’s great news. But it sure has been a wild ride for the rest of us.
Richie shot to stardom in 2003 when ‘The Simple Life‘ hit TV screens and made her a name. Playing the comic foil to Hilton’s elegantly unruffled straight woman revealed she has a flair for comedy, and the show returned for four more cycles before a tiff with Hilton ended the successful run in 2007. Richie has also been a tabloid staple for some highly publicized incidents, including a DUI arrest, as well as persistent speculation about her weight.
Now that she’s a bride-to-be, it looks like Nicole Richie will be living ‘The Simple Life’ once again. The Letterman segment will air on Friday’s show.
