William Shatner is expressing his sadness over his young co-star’s untimely death this week.

The legendary TV star used Twitter to sound off about former ‘Boston Legal‘ co-star Justin Mentell, who was killed Monday in a car accident in Wisconsin.

“I’m deeply saddened to hear about Justin Mentell,” he wrote. “There’s no telling how far up the ladder he may have climbed. My sympathies to his family.”

Mentell played attorney Garrett Wells on Shatner’s legal series during the 2005-2006 season.

The young actor’s Jeep swerved off the road and struck two trees on early Monday. Mentell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
