Filmdom’s erstwhile Ferris Bueller is at long last TV-bound. In what would be his first ever series regular role, Matthew Broderick has signed on to star in ‘Beach Lane,’ an NBC comedy pilot from ‘Saturday Night Live‘ boss Lorne Michaels and writer Paul Simms (‘NewsRadio‘). Broderick will play a celebrity author hired by an irresponsible millionaire to run a Hamptons newspaper.
In other recent pilot news:
The CW has picked up three more prospective series: ‘Hellcats,’ a look at competitive cheerleading produced by ‘Smallville‘ star Tom Welling; ‘Betwixt,’ in which changelings save suburban humans from evil forces; and ‘HMS,’ about a class of Harvard med school freshmen. ‘Heroes’ star Hayden Panettiere is a co-executive producer on the latter.
At CBS, ‘ER‘ scion John Wells has another medical drama in play, this time centered on a team of doctors that roam the country helping the less fortunate, while comedian Bill Gardell has landed the male lead in ‘Mike & Molly,’ sitcom king Chuck Lorre’s look at a couple who meet at Overeaters Anonymous.
