NBC has said yes to Knope, granting a Season 3 pick-up to Amy Poehler’s ‘Parks and Recreation.’

The renewal came early, an NBC rep told the Hollywood Reporter, so that the actors’ schedules could be locked. NBC’s other Thursday laffers – ‘Community,’ ‘The Office‘ and ‘30 Rock,’ all of which draw bigger crowds that ‘Parks and Rec’ – are also expected to be picked up for new seasons.

‘Parks and Rec’ cast member Aziz Ansari (Tom) joked on Twitter that “when the pickup was announced, Ron Swanson ripped his shirt off and buttons flew everywhere.” He also quipped that the renewal came with “the condition we air ‘The Mentalist‘ in a tiny box on the lower right.”

‘Parks and Rec’ stumbled out of the gate as a midseason entry last spring, but eventually picked up steam over the first half of its sophomore run.

The mockumentary-style comedy is currently averaging 5.1 million total viewers, and ranks among the top 15 primetime network shows in upscale 18-49 viewership.
