The Duggar clan is ready to introduce their ‘Special Delivery’ to the world.
Seven weeks after their 19th child made an unexpected early arrival, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar reveal their micropreemie Josie on a special episode of the family’s TLC reality show ‘18 Kids and Counting‘ (which officially changes its title to ’19 and Counting’ this week).
“It is the hardest thing we’ve ever been through,” Jim Bob tells People magazine. Josie was born at 25 weeks on Dec. 10th via emergency c-section after Michelle, 43, was diagnosed with preeclampsia, a serious disorder related to hypertension. Little Josie weighs just 2 lbs. 3 oz. and is fed breast milk through a tube.
“Years ago, a baby this small wouldn’t have lived an hour,” the Duggar daddy says. “We are so grateful for the ability to help her.”
“It is incredible what the doctors and nurses can do to save the life of this little person,” says Michelle.
The Duggars uprooted their entire brood to Little Rock, so the family could be closer to Josie, who is still in intensive care at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
“We don’t know if there is going to be another big hill to go up,” Michelle adds, but “we are grateful for the wonderful days when she has been good. We know at any moment, things could change.”
The Arkansas family is currently comprised of nine girls and ten boys, including two sets of twins, all with names that start with the letter ‘J.’ The Duggars, who are strict Conservative Baptists, stopped using birth control for religious reasons.
Josie’s delivery is featured in the special, ’19 Kids and Counting: Special Duggar Delivery,’ airing this Sunday, Jan. 31st, at 8 p.m. on TLC. The fourth season of the series premieres February 2nd.
