Rosie O’Donnell sat down with Oprah Winfrey on Monday’s ‘‘Oprah Winfrey Show‘ to chat about her career, her family and her new love.
The boisterous comedian discussed in detail for the first time her new blended family and sharing custody of her four children with ex-partner Kelli Carpenter.
“Although we co-parent,” O’Donnell says, “we share equal time but are never really without them. Some are here. And that’s the way we did it. It’s free-flowing, and we do nights together, too.”
The former couple was married in 2004 and split in 2007, after a 12-year relationship that produced four kids, including Parker, 14, Chelsea, 12, Blake, 10, and Vivenne Rose, 7.
O’Donnell, 47, is now moving on–and moving in–with her new partner, Texas artist Tracy Kachtick-Anders. The couple confirmed their relationship in December. Rosie’s girlfriend has six adopted children, some of whom are special needs kids.
“So you’re gonna blend the families?” asks Oprah during the segment. “The six kids and the four kids … ”
“Yes,” says O’Donnell. “Can you imagine?”
“No,” responds Winfrey.
“I know,” O’Donnell replies. “A lot of people can’t.”
O’Donnell is promoting her new special ‘A Family Is A Family Is A Family: A Rosie O’Donnell Celebration’ about alternative definitions of families, airing Jan. 31st on HBO.
