Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy is known for its completely non-sequitur humor, but there’s a little more than sheer randomness involved with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s recent live-action appearance on the show. You’ll remember a couple of weeks ago, he graciously appeared to simulate Peter and Lois having sex with action figures to circumvent FCC regulations, and he did it with aplomb. But if you go to see Johnson’s new movie The Tooth Fairy this weekend, you’ll may start to think there’s more to this than meets the eye when you see MacFarlane show up in a surprising cameo as a black-market magic-pushing fairy.
Johnson “I’d been such a big fan of the show Family Guy and Seth and, of course, his home was at Fox. The executives over at Fox had come to Lem [Tooth Fairy director Michael Lembeck] and said ‘hey, what do you think about this idea?’ And Lem said ‘great, I’ve got a great part for him.’ Of course, Seth and I became buddies after that, and I said ‘any time I can return the favor, if you can let me come on and play, I’d love to.’ And that’s what you saw.”
