Grey’s Anatomy‘ is ready for its 1980s flashback, now that it has cast J. August Richards (‘Angel‘) and Sarah Paulson (‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip‘) as younger versions of doctors-in-love Richard Webber and Ellis Grey.

Richards and Paulson will offer up their takes on the roles originated by James T. Pickens and Kate Burton in the ABC drama’s February 18 episode, Fancast has confirmed.

The setup for the illuminating hour has the Chief, Bailey and Callie taking turns speaking at a teaching symposium. As they each recall cases from their Seattle Grace pasts, the characters will flash back to 1982, the early 2000s and just a few years ago, respectively.

During the flashbacks, viewers will lay witness to a pivotal time during the Chief’s affair with Ellis; Bailey’s beginnings as an intern; and the weeks leading up to Callie’s Seattle Grace arrival.

As previously reported by Fancast, Bailey’s flashback will feature Missi Pyle (‘Heroes’) guest-starring as a strict resident to whom the interns answer.

Also, there had been speculation that the Chief/Ellis flashbacks might reveal that Mer has a half-brother – and that he is no less than Mercy West import Dr. Jackson Avery – but ‘Grey’s’ boss Shonda Rhimes took to Twitter to shoot down that rumor.
