ABC has ordered a medical drama pilot from ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘/’Private Practice‘ creator Shonda Rhimes – this one about three doctors who set up shop on an isolated tropical island (Smoke Monster not included).
‘Off the Map’ is being penned by Jenna Bans, a ‘Grey’s’ co-executive producer, says the Hollywood Reporter. Bans will exec-produce the pilot with Rhimes and another ‘Grey’s’ e.p., Betsy Beers.
‘Off the Map’ represents Rhimes’ latest bid to land a third drama on ABC’s schedule. Last pilot season she executive-produced ‘Inside the Box,’ which starred British actress Indira Varma as a hard-working producer at a Washington, D.C. television news bureau. ABC, however, ultimately passed.
Other pilots orders granted by ABC on Tuesday include ‘Body of Evidence,’ a procedural centered on a female neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner, and ‘Happy Endings,’ a half-hour comedy about a couple that breaks up at the altar and then struggles to retain their shared circle of friends.
