The vicious volley between Conan, Leno and now NBC executives continues, as the collapse of ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien‘ and ‘The Jay Leno Show‘ reaches new levels of blame gaming.

‘Team Conan’ aka ‘CoCo’ aka insiders from the Conan O’Brien camp have responded to the comments made Thursday by Dick Ebersol, in which the chairman of NBC Universal Sports defended Jay Leno and claimed NBC’s woes were O’Brien’s fault.

In Ebersol’s evisceration of Conan, he called the “stubborn” comedian “an astounding failure.”

“This is the essence of NBC’s problems,” a Conan insider told The Wrap. “Conan O’Brien is losing his job because he didn’t take the comedy notes of a 62-year-old sports producer.”

An exit deal for Conan is expected any time now, but he’s allegedly angling on to get good severance packages for his staff (and himself, of course), says The Wrap.

But don’t feel too bad for Conan. It’s possible he may walk out with “a payoff in excess of $10 million” and could be ‘allowed’ to return to TV as soon as next fall, if the rumored terms of his contract release turn out to be true.
