Mystery solved? ‘Nurse Jackie‘ excised original cast member Haaz Sleiman from Season 2 because the character of nurse Mohammed “Mo-Mo” De La Cruz – a leftover from the series pilot – had become redundant and thus expendable.

“[Mo-Mo] did not sustain what we wanted to do because [Dr. Eleanor] O’Hara (played by Eve Best) sort of took over the best friend role,” executive producer Linda Wallem explained at the Showtime series’ TCA winter press tour presentation.

“We love Haaz, we miss him” Wallem added. “He’s going to do great.”

Though Sleiman’s absence now makes a bit more sense, viewers may be left wondering exactly where Mo-Mo disappeared to. Exec producer Liz Brixius says a scene was shot mentioning that Jackie’s gay pal is now “working for a dermatologist for three times the money,” though that line may not make it onto air.
