USA Network has given a green light to ‘Covert Affairs,’ a new spy drama fronted by Piper Perabo (‘Coyote Ugly‘).

‘Covert Affairs’ stars Perabo as Annie Walker, a CIA trainee who is abruptly promoted to field operative – because, yet unbeknownst to her, a shady ex-boyfriend (played by Eion Bailey, ‘ER’) is a person of interest to the Feds.

The series also stars Christopher Gorham (‘Ugly Betty‘) as Annie’s blind special-ops partner, Anne Dudek (‘House‘) as her sister; Peter Gallagher (‘The O.C.‘) as the CIA director; and Kari Matchett (‘Invasion‘) as Annie’s direct supervisor.

“This in some ways is the most ambitious show that we’ve undertaken,” Jeff Wachtel, USA Network’s president of original programming, told the Hollywood Reporter. “The story is bigger, the production values are bigger, and the ensemble too is a little bigger than our other shows.”

‘Covert Affairs,’ which received an 11-episode order, is tentatively scheduled to premiere this summer, where it will likely be paired on a night with an existing USA series.
