For those of you who recall, 21 Jump Street was an action show back in the early days of the Fox network about a special squad of cops who worked undercover as students to help bust crime in Los Angeles high schools. For those who don’t recall, refresh yourself by watching full episodes from the show that launched the career of Johnny Depp right here on Fancast.
Now comes word that there will be a feature film adaptation of the series, but the swerve is that it will star Jonah Hill, who is also executive producing and they’re reaching out to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to helm the project as their live-action feature debut. Seems fairly obvious to say they’ll be taking the comedy-remake route with this one, a la Starsky & Hutch.
Considering the fact that back in the day, Depp had said he couldn’t get out of his contract for that show fast enough once he became a “teen idol” type, one has to wonder if he has a good enough sense of humor to come back to spoof himself and his early career.
