‘Yellow Submarine’ to Get Zemeckis’ ‘Christmas Carol’ Treatment

Robert Zemeckis is obsessed with motion-capture animation. After The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol, he has his sights set on giving the same Disney 3-D treatment to the trippy animated Beatles classic Yellow Submarine. Audition notices have been posted at a Beatles convention in Stamford, CT by a casting company with a long history with Zemeckis for aspiring musicians and actors to try and “embody the characters of John, Paul, George or Ringo.” This would seem to suggest his attempts to convince surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to mo-cap themselves haven’t met with success. So if you’ve perfected that Liverpool lilt, you might want to truck yourself to New England and see if you can’t win your chance to go beneath the waves. If you’re among those whose initial impression is that hiring people to impersonate the Beatles for a film like this is a form of sacrilege, keep in mind that the Fab Four didn’t even voice themselves in the original, either.
