Wanda Sykes took on ‘Saturday Night Live’ this past weekend as her new late-night talk show premiered on Fox in the old ‘MadTV’ slot.

The Wanda Sykes Show‘ nabbed a strong 2.2 household rating, although ultimately losing out to a Taylor Swift-hosted ‘SNL,’ which had its best night this season with a 5.0 rating, according to The Live Feed — final Nielsen numbers will not be available until later this week.

Perhaps best described as a mash-up of ‘Real Time with Bill Maher‘ and ‘The View,’ Sykes took on politics and race relations while a drag queen sidekick stood in the wings. “This is my very first talk show. And in honor of my first talk show, let me be the first person on Fox not to pick on President Obama,” Sykes said during her opening monologue.

Jokes ranged from comparisons of Senator Lieberman and Gollum from ‘Lord of the Rings’ to attempting a green makeover of the adult entertainment industry — think recycled condoms.

Sykes had told Zap2it.com that her goal for this show is to be the talk of the town. “I would love it to be a show people are looking forward to and say, ‘I can’t wait for next Saturday.’”
