Those of us who were holding out hope (however irrational) that the well-liked Juliet Burke somehow survived “the incident” on Mystery Island are dead wrong.

Lost‘ producers have confirmed that Juliet is indeed dead.

“The decision to kill Juliet was absolutely brutal,” says exec producer Damon Lindelof to Entertainment Weekly.

The surprisingly likable ‘Other,’ and her surprisingly sublime romance with beloved bad boy Sawyer (Josh Holloway) came to an abrupt, heartbreaking end in the Season 5 finale when Juliet fell down the proverbial rabbit hole, setting off the hydrogen bomb that may or may not have triggered the biggest game changer of them all: undoing the crash of Oceanic Flight 815.

All is not completely lost when it comes to Juliet, however. Rumors that the character will appear in multiple episodes next season are true. Start mulling theories now on just how writers plan to make that happen.

“There’s still something very significant that we have not yet learned about the character,” co-exec producer Carlton Cuse teases.

But don’t feel bad for Elizabeth Mitchell. The actress seems to have a bonafide hit with her new job on ‘V,’ the remake of the 1983 miniseries.
