Kate Gosselin is getting crafty at taking subtle swipes at her ex Jon Gosselin these days. She’s also surprisingly realistic about moving on.

“Certain events take place that makes us sitting ducks,” Kate says in a new interview. “It makes us easy targets,” she says, clearly referring to Jon’s public behavior. “Certain ones of us speak a lot; others of us prefer to keep our mouths shut.”

The controversial ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8‘ star sat down with Ellen DeGeneres Wednesday to discuss the public’s fascination with her family, her romantic prospects and how she’s coping.

“I just know that on TV or off TV, I’ve been very much targeted and torn apart,” Kate revealed, when asked about Jon’s frequent talking to the press.

On Being a Mom: “I’m telling you the root of my heart everything about me. I am a mother first.”

On Dating: “I’m not thinking about it, but the thought has crossed my mind: It will be scrutinized…let’s not talk about it.”

On the Ring Thing: “At some point–when I have a job again–I plan on getting a ring with eight diamonds and a mother of pearl, and the kids were very excited about that because it’s a symbol of me and the kids together forever.”

On the Kate Gosselin Halloween Costume: “Somebody emailed that to me a bit ago saying there was going to be a Kate Gosselin wig,” Kate says. “I thought, ‘Wow, is that really what my hair looks like?’”

Kate, who hinted the end of ‘Jon & Kate’ is near and said she’s ‘sad to see it go,’ will be interviewed for a second one-hour special called ‘Kate: Her Story,’ airing Monday, Nov. 2, on TLC.
