A rare genetic disorder could have played a role in the death of ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta‘ star Ashley “A.J.” Jewell.

Jewell was stricken with sickle cell anemia, which limits oxygen flow throughout the body. The Fulton County Associate Medical Examiner, who performed Jewell’s autopsy, says that the illness may have hindered his condition during the fight that led to his death, TMZ reports.

Jewell, who died in October after a fight at an Atlanta bar, was the former fiance of Kandi Burress of ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ fame. He had appeared on several episodes of the Bravo series.
