NBC has officially tapped Lauren Graham as the replacement for Maura Tierney for its upcoming series, ‘Parenthood,’ according to Variety.

Graham, who played single mom Lorelai Gilmore on the whip smart ‘Gilmore Girls’ for seven seasons, will take over the role of another single mother, Sarah, one of the many siblings in the Braverman clan that also includes Peter Krause, Erika Christiensen and Dax Shepherd.

The part was originally cast with ‘ER‘ vet Maura Tierney, who unfortunately had to drop out of the project in September to focus on her health. The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer over the summer.

Last week it was speculated that Helen Hunt (‘Mad About You’) was in contention to join the ensemble cast, but now the role has gone to a different ‘Girl.’

The NBC remake is being produced by the team of Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and David Nevins, and is an update of the 1989 film starring Steve Martin, Mary Steenburgen, Joaquin Phoenix and Keanu Reeves.

The network is slating ‘Parenthood’ for a post-Winter Olympics midseason start.
