Jewel has some very good advice for the current crop of ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ celebs right before Monday’s big season premiere on ABC.

“Start slow! I went too hard too fast and I definitely hurt myself,” she told us at the 9Planet Universe Launch Party last week in Los Angeles. “Steady wins the race!”

Jewel had to drop out of last season’s dancing race because of serious fractures on her legs and she was replaced by Holly Madison.

Those words would have worked particularly well for Tom DeLay and Kathy Ireland, who have already fallen prey to the supposed ‘DWTS’ curse – DeLay suffering from a foot injury and Ireland with a leg wound from surfing.

The musician and poet from Alaska also talked to us about a fun children’s project she has going on. “I have an album out right now called ‘Lullabies.’ I produced it by myself. I made it at the Ranch. Pretty excited about it,” she said.

“It’s like my first album. It’s acoustic, nothing really uptempo. It’s soothing and relaxing. A lot of my fans are using it during traffic hours when they get home after work, maybe with some wine.”

And what about a follow-up to her 2008 album, ‘Perfectly Clear’? “Oh, I’ve been writing a new album, nothing in particular,” she divulged.
