A funny thing happened to Paula Abdul while hosting VH1′s ‘Divas’ special – she showed a sense of humor.

The former ‘American Idol’ judge, who earlier revealed she may have broken down as she debated whether to leave the top-rated show, made fun of her ‘Idol’ replacement, Ellen DeGeneres.

Wearing a blond wig, gray suit and Jack Purcell kicks, she danced through the audience, mimicking DeGeneres’ signature opening of her talk show.

Slouched in a chair onstage, she said, “”Why y’all staring at me? Can’t a girl try out a new job?”

Just to make sure no one took it the wrong way, Abdul added, “All kidding aside, nothing but love Ellen and I wish you the best of luck and congratulations on your new gig.”

At the show’s after-party, reality TV star Whitney Port told Entertainment Tonight she thought Abdul was a hit. “That was so funny and she was so good,” said Port. “She was so right on about the dance moves.” Conrad added, “I thought it was a cute way to bring up something that nobody else did.”

Earlier in the day, Abdul was interviewed on a Phoenix radio program. When Johnjay and Rich asked if she ever “broke down” during her negotiations with ‘Idol,’ she made a candidate revelation.

“I think that happened during the time I was making that difficult decision [to leave], where I was fighting with myself back and forth” she said. “Am I willing to go against what my beliefs are and have the same outcome?”

Abdul also hinted at big plans.

“I’m going to be producing my own shows — not just in America,” she said. “I’m going to be creating a show in Vegas. Pretty soon I’ll be announcing some very exciting stuff with a network and production company. So I’m actually getting to do all the things that represent who I am. People have no idea.”
