When it came to finding the inspiration to play a neo-Nazi on the upcoming season of FX’s hit drama Sons of Anarchy, Henry Rollins drew from a familiar well: his days of being on tour.

“I’ve met a lot of neo-Nazi’s in my time. That was the one thing I had going for me,” the former Black Flag frontman said.

“Tom Metzger, of the White Aryan Resistance, used to send these idiots to Black Flag shows to reach young kids. I used to debate these guys, and we’d get into it” Rollins said.

“So when [executive producer] Kurt Sutter said ‘neo-Nazi’s,’ I said ‘lets go, lets talk about it.’ We did. For an hour, back-and-forth, and he finally said ‘wow you kind of get this.’”

In his personal life, Rollins also continues to fight against white supremacists. He contributes money annually to the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization who services victims of hate crimes, and audits the Ku Klux Klan, among other things. “I keep up on these guys,” he confessed.

With a glint in his eye, Rollins said he’s looking forward to getting much worse as the season progresses. “I’m a bad dude,” he said. “I do awful things throughout the season.”

Season two of Sons of Anarchy premieres Tuesday, September 8th at 10 PM on FX.
