Every new television season has an emerging trend, and this Fall is no exception. After watching countless hours of pilots – and we mean countless – we found it.
It’s the kind of theme that’ll make you want to lock up your husbands, boyfriends, and sons: the epic battle of female seduction between the mature (cougars), and the young (kittens).
This is what the TV landscape was made for.
Below, we’ve compiled a list of the ten sexiest femme fatales on the upcoming primetime slate who will be vying for your – and their male (or female) counterparts – attention.
Many faces you’ll easily recognize, while others are still a little wet behind the ears. So who will prevail? Read on, and tune in.
COURTNEY COX ARQUETTE ♥COUGAR TOWN
Her Role: Jules (Cox-Arquette) is a recently-divorced suburban mother who, by the urging of her friends, is thrust back into the dating scene only to discover the virtues of younger men.
Added Bonus: The comedy was created by Scrubs funny man Bill Lawrence.
Stars: Ian Gomez, Christa Miller, Busy Phillips, Brian Van Holt, Josh Hopkins, Dan Byrd
Cougar Behavior: Let’s just say that in the pilot episode Jules beds a guy who could easily be her teenage son.
Real-Life Cougar: “I’ve been blazing that trail for 10 years,” Cox has joked about her marriage to David Arquette, who is 7 years her junior.
What She Likes About Jules: “Getting older is harder anyway, but living in Hollywood’s exceptionally hard doing it. What I love about this character is everything’s real. It would be really scary if I wasn’t married and I had to go back out there again.”
LAURA LEIGHTON ♥MELROSE PLACE
Her Role: The original 4616 Melrose Place vixen Sydney Andrews is back (if she ever left) and is just as bad as everyone remembers her.
Alumni: Other former castmate Thomas Calabro returns to reprise the role of Dr. Michael Mancini.
Stars: Stephanie Jacobsen; Colin Egglesfield; Ashlee Simpson-Wentz; Thomas Calabro; Katie Cassidy; Michael Rady; Jessica Lucas
Cougar Behavior: Sydney has been busy since we last left her. The twist? One of her amorous affairs with a younger MP resident has serious ties to her past.
On Deciding To Return To MP: “They [ed: producers] had an approach to the show that incorporated my character in a very unique way. And to me, there was sort of no — I had no expectation, going in, what it was going to be. I only knew that playing Sydney the first time was such fun, and there was no downside to coming back to play her again.”
JULIE BOWEN ♥MODERN FAMILY
Her Role: Claire is a married mother of three surviving the stress (and humor) of every day life while she and her extended family are filmed for a Dutch documentary.
Stars: Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Steven Levitan, Jason Winer
Cougar Behavior: Although Claire is not technically a cougar, we do know she had quite the wild past. Lets also not forget that Bowen is no stranger to love affairs with younger men, as evidenced in her steamy scenes with Silas Botwin (Hunter Parrish) last season on Weeds.
On Whether Claire’s Checkered Past Will Continue To Inform Her Parenting: “Oh, hells yes. I think that makes it more interesting and more fun that she’s just — she didn’t just pop out a Type A person. It was a long road to getting there. And it makes her relationship with her kids much more interesting. She knows what they’re up to. It’s not just ‘I suspect you’re fooling around under the pool table.’ It’s ‘I know you are because I’ve been there.’ She’s definitely going to continue to mine that.’
JENNA ELFMAN ♥ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE
The Premise: Billie is a single newspaper movie critic who accidentally finds herself pregnant after a fling with a younger screw up she meets at a bar.
Obvious Comparison: Knocked Up
Stars: Nicolas Wright, Jon Foster, Ashley Jensen, Grant Show, Lennon Parham.
Cougar Behavior: Having a one night stand in the scuzzy bachelor pad of a 20-something she meets at aforementioned bar.
How Tough It Is To Find A Good Comedy: “I count my blessings every day because it’s been quite a challenging last four or five years of my life. I have been doing nothing but trying to find another show to do on television that makes me happy, that inspires me, that I feel like I’m in a comedy sandbox doing what I love to do, and I have that with this. So I am honestly so grateful.”
ELLE MACPHERSON ♥THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE
Her Character: Claudia Foster scouts talent as the no-nonsense head of the elite Covet Modeling Agency.
Art Imitating Life: Claudia, “The Body” MacPherson is a former model.
Stars: Mishca Barton, Sara Paxton, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Ashley Madekwe, Corbin Bleu
Cougar Behavior: Almost her entire job consists of regularly asking hot young guys to strip down to their underwear for her to gaze at them. Need we say more?
Her Experience On The Show: “This is a fabulous job for me because it allows me to express and explore and communicate my experience in the fashion industry. The modeling industry is a multi-billion-dollar business. It is not a fly-by-night thing. We have television programs. We have whole TV stations that are devoted to the fashion industry. We create a lot of money for the U.S. economy, for the global economy. We as a team, because of our multiple experiences, are working very hard to make sure that this program is authentic –authentic in its human relations, authentic in its portrayal of the industry, authentic in the growth and the arc of people within this industry. It is not a manufactured, dramatized version, and we have all had enough experience to be able to really monitor that and work as a team to keep this real, to keep it honest, and to have an integrity.”
ASHLEE SIMPSON-WENTZ ♥MELROSE PLACE
Her Role: Violet Foster is a young small-town transplant who’s come to live at Melrose Place for mysterious reasons, reasons Simpson-Wentz hints will be revealed more in the second episode.
The Hair Color Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree: Ever since the red hair dye appeared, rumors have been circulating that Violet’s big secret could involve a certain MP resident. That’s all we’re saying.
Stars: Stephanie Jacobsen; Colin Egglesfield; Laura Leighton; Thomas Calabro; Katie Cassidy; Michael Rady; Jessica Lucas
Lust Factor: Violet develops a crush early on, and there’s no telling what lengths she’ll go to in order to attain the object of her affection.
If Violet Has Stalker Tendencies: “A bit. Yeah. She wants to get her way so I think she’s going to figure out how she’s going to deal with that. She does do very interesting things, then we kind of laugh, because she’s definitely someone to be popping up somewhere, lurking. It’s fun to play. But at the same time she wants to be accepted.”
KATIE CASSIDY ♥MELROSE PLACE
The Premise: Ella Simms is a young successful bi-curious publicist who will stop at nothing to get who, and what she wants.
Who She May Remind You Of: If Samantha Jones had ever given birth to a daughter, it would be Ella.
Stars: Stephanie Jacobsen; Colin Egglesfield; Laura Leighton; Thomas Calabro; Ashlee Simpson Wentz; Michael Rady; Jessica Lucas
Lust Factor: One minute it looks like she’s interested in her friend and client Jonah, and the next, she’s making out with a girl she meets at a club. Executive producer Todd Slavkin has joked “Ella is try-sexual, in that she will try anything.”
On What It Means To Be The New MP Vixen: “My character is definitely exploring her sexuality. I have no idea what’s to come, but I’m sure it’s going to be crazy and fun.”
MORENA BACCARIN ♥V
Her Role: Anna is a seductive alien who arrives on earth aboard a mothership of fellow “visitors” with an agenda that is not altogether transparent.
Added Bonus: Unlike the original, these new visitors aren’t covered in hideous scales.
Stars: Joel Gretsch, Morris Chestnut, Elizabeth Mitchell,
Scott Wolf, Lourdes Benedicto, Scott Peters, Jeffrey Bell
Lust Factor: Being an incredibly attractive alien has its perks, but the sexual tension between Anna and TV reporter Chad Decker (Scott Wolf) is undeniable.
On Playing The Role Of An Earth Invader: “I have big shoes to fill as being the face of what people want to see, and there’s kind of no way to prepare on how to play an alien. I did some research, but there’s not a lot out there. I think I just am trying my best to be as trustworthy as I can be and to be what I would like somebody to be like if they were to come down
to Earth, and I think there’s an aspect of politicians in that because you need to embody what everybody of every nationality and need wants to see and at the same time you have your own agenda.”
DANIELA RUAH ♥ NCIS: LOS ANGELES
Her Role: Kensi Blye is a Special Agent with an international background, similar Ruah’s own Portugese ancestry.
Added Bonus: Working alongside Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J is enough.
Stars: Chris O’Donnell; LL Cool J; Linda Hunt; Adam Jamal Craig; Peter Cambor
Lust Factor: With such an attractive male-driven cast, it’s only a matter of time before sparks fly.
What She Thinks About Being On Such A Testosterone Laden Show: “I love the attention. It’s actually great. Personally I grew up with a bunch of guy friends anyway. So these guys have got nothing on me. You don’t really feel the whole testosterone thing. If anything, I’m learning from everybody else, and both myself and the character are so — I want to do everything. So I’m looking at what all these guys are doing. I’m going, “I want to do that. I want to run five blocks like LL – like Todd is doing.”
SARA PAXTON ♥THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE
Her Role: Raina Marinelli is an aspiring teenage model with a secret past.
Stars: Mishca Barton, Sara Paxton, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Ashley Madekwe, Corbin Bleu, Elle MacPherson
Lust Factor: She’s a model; her job is to be lusted after.
On Whether She Relates To Raina: “I can relate to my character in the sense that Raina is the fresh face and
the new girl on the scene. I’ve been acting since I was six, but I’ve had to up and move to New York, and I’m a California girl, and now I’m in this big city, and I’ve been there for a month. Also I am completely new to the
fashion industry. Some of us have already done modeling before, and I haven’t at all.”
