Big-time movie star Kate Winslet could be headed to the small screen.

Winslet is attached to star in a miniseries remake of ‘Mildred Pierce,’ the 1945 film that won ‘Mommie Dearest’ Joan Crawford on Oscar.

In the classic noir, Winslet would play the cheated-on wife and mother who sets out on her own with a restaurant business and becomes embroiled in all sorts of melodrama, including murder.

Todd Haynes (‘Far From Heaven’) is on board to write and direct the adaptation of the James M. Cain novel, with HBO as the leading contender to pick up the miniseries, according to Variety.

The high-profile project would be another major score for the cable network, following in the wake of the huge success of HBO’s ‘Grey Gardens,’ starring a completely transformed Drew Barrymore and the always reliable Jessica Lange as ‘Big’ Edie and ‘Little’ Edie Beale, Jackie O’s ‘quirky’ cousins.
