Ashlee Simpson Wentz opened up about life as a new mother, her sister Jessica, and her latest gig on the CW’s upcoming drama Melrose Place at Press Tour in Pasadena, Calif. Tuesday. “Jessica is great,” she said when asked how her sister is holding up post-Tony Romo break-up. “She’s the strongest girl ever,” she boasted.
Of her 8-month-old son Bronx with rocker husband Pete Wentz, Simpson gushed “every week I’m learning something new from him. He’s crawling. He has six teeth now. He says ma ma and da da.”
As for how motherhood has changed her, the 24-year-old said “it’s made me the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. Just looking at Bronx’s eyes I’m like Wow. I don’t think you actually know until you have a child what an amazing experience it is.”

So how does she keep her post-baby body in shape? The surprisingly pin-thin star said traditional exercise is not part of the plan. “I don’t workout,” she said. “Lately I just have weights in my trailer. My son is my workout at the house, [there's] lots of running.”
On ‘Melrose,’ Simpson plays Violet, a Los Angeles transplant who she describes as “creepy,” and a “bit of a [stalker]” with a mysterious past; the truth of which she hinted will start to unravel in the second episode.
“They’ve all seen it and they all love it,” she said of her family’s reaction to the pilot episode. “I tell [Pete] all the storylines because he’s my best friend, and I tell him everything,” she confessed. “But I don’t tell everyone the storylines!”
As for her music career, Simpson has temporarily put it on hold while ‘Melrose’ is filming, but that doesn’t mean she’s given it up forever. “Once the show is going, maybe in my trailer I’ll start writing,” she said.
When it comes to her own personal musical taste, Simpson said she recently downloaded the new Phoenix album, Wolfgang Amadeus. Fun fact: Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars is the boyfriend (and baby daddy) of Sofia Coppola.
