Joely Richardson has a regal new role on deck.

She’s joining the cast of Showtime’s historical romp ‘The Tudors‘ as Catherine Parr, the sixth and last wife of Jonathan Rhys Meyer’s Henry the VIII.

Since Henry’s wives don’t stick around for too long, expect to see Richardson in five episodes of the steamy series, which is currently filming in Dublin, Ireland.

The tortured wife is a role Richardson knows well. She spent the last six years playing housewife-turned-lesbian Julia McNamara on ‘Nip/Tuck.’

A few of Richardson’s costars are also leaping to new projects, now that ‘Nip/Tuck’s’ final season is in the can, even if it won’t be on the screen for a very long time.

The fourth–and final–season of ‘The Tudors’ is scheduled to air in 2010.
