Danny DeVito Explains Drunken Interivew, Did It “In Character”

Danny DeVito isn’t a drunk, he just plays one on TV.

Last night on The Late Show With David Letterman, DeVito explained the reason for appearing inebriated in a recent interview on the set of his FX comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In the interview, a seemingly sloshed DeVito wobbles around with a beer can, making questionably offensive comments towards local Fox news reporter Jenn Frederick.

Always in good spirits, DeVito laughingly told Letterman that despite appearances, he was not boozing at 8 AM, and that he conducted the interview “in character,” based on an intervention scene he and his ‘Sunny’ costars were shooting that morning in Philadelphia.

Despite this being the second notable time DeVito has “appeared” sauced during a TV interview (the first was the infamous Limoncello episode on The View in 2006), we’re still inclined to believe he was, as he claims “on an air high.” What do you think?
