Name: Courteney Cox
Friend: Monica Geller
How We Were First Introduced: In 1985, Cox was a Southern Belle and Ford Agency model when she got put into heavy rotation on MTV. Brian De Palma cast her as the lucky fan in Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” video who gets called up on stage to dance with the Boss. She reportedly got paid 350 bucks for the gig.
How She Got Hooked into “Friends”: Having just co-starred alongside Jim Carrey in the 1994 hit “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” Cox was a known commodity to series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman, who wanted her to play Rachel. Cox, however, wanted to play Monica, and the rest is history.
Memorable Scene: In the May 2001 “Friends” season-seven finale, part two of “The One with Monica and Chandler’s Wedding,” Monica caps off her self-written – and seemingly improvisational – vows as only she can: “I found everything that I’d ever been looking for my whole life,” she tells Chandler. “And now here we are with our future before us, and I only want to spend it with you, my soulmate, my friend… Unless you don’t want to. You go!”
Personal Life: Cox has been married to actor David Arquette for 10 years and has a daughter with him. She remains tight with former “Friends” castmate Jennifer Aniston.
Quote: A lot of my humor does come from anger. It’s like, you’re not gonna pull one over on me – which is pretty much my motto always.
What They’re Doing Now: After producing and starring in FX’s acclaimed series ‘Dirt,‘ Cox is set to star in ABC’s new fall series “Cougar Town,” playing a single mom… er, re-entering the dating world..
