This week all eyes are on Dancing With the Stars contestants Melissa Rycroft, Shawn Johnson and Gilles Marini. But there’s a bigger personality who deserves a mention – Bruno Tonioli, who made his mark in Hollywood choreographing music videos and concerts for The Rolling Stones, Duran Duran, and Sting and coordinating dance numbers on films like ‘Ella Enchanted.’
Bruno explained the draw of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ at GSN’s Game Show Awards on Saturday in Los Angeles. “It’s great entertainment. That is really the basic of it. Great all embracing entertainment. If you watch it once you’ll watch it again. It’s dancing, musical, everything you could ever want.”
And it’s his lifelong interest in these types of Hollywood musicals that drew him to the spotlight. “I grew up in Italy and I loved the variety shows,” he told us. “I used to watch old Hollywood movies. But we got them about 20 years later! I was totally smitten by the great Hollywood musicals.”
“It’s amazing being here now, in Hollywood. When you have a dream and you always think that the dream is gonna materialize but you don’t know how or when. And now that I’m here I couldn’t feel more like I belong here! Finally it’s where I belong!”
The Game Show Awards will air on June 6 on GSN.
