ABC Cancels ‘Samantha Who?’

ABC has canceled the Christina Applegate series ‘Samantha Who?‘.

The comedy was expected to be renewed for a third season–but can now be added to the victim list of the economy crisis.

The network wanted to slash the show’s budget by as much as $500,000, according to Variety, but when it was determined that wasn’t feasible with the show’s single-camera format, they slashed the show altogether.

One of the funnier sitcoms on ABC (is ‘According to Jim’ still alive?), ‘Samantha’ was considered a hit when it debuted, but the show began to struggle when it was moved to Thursdays in ‘Ugly Betty’s‘ time slot.

UPDATE: ‘According to Jim’ has been canceled. At long last, the sitcom that wouldn’t die is finally dead! ‘Cupid’ and ‘Surviving Suburbia’ also will not return.

Another jeopardy show, ‘Ugly Betty’ will return but moves to Friday night’s TV dead zone.
