Simon: All ‘Idol’ Judges Will Be Back

In a pre-taped interview on “Ellen” that is set to air today, ‘American Idol‘ judge Simon Cowell says that all four judges will “absolutely” be back next season, despite all the talk of people leaving and no longer being under contract.

Paula Abdul said a couple of weeks ago on “Nightline” that she is in the last year of her contract, and new judge Kara DioGuardi told TV Guide Magazine just last week that she has not been approached about coming back next year and she has just a one-year deal with the show.

“I think certainly next year everyone’s going to be back,” Simon tells Ellen, according to TVGuide.com. “Yeah, absolutely.”

Until there are signed contracts – and apparently there aren’t, according to everything Paula and Kara have been saying – this might just be wishful thinking on Simon’s part. He’s under contract for one more year and is on record as saying that he, at least, wouldn’t want to do the show if Randy Jackson, Ryan Seacrest and Paula weren’t also on board.

Slash Calls ‘Idol’ Finalists Best Ever: Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash, who is on board to be the mentor this week on “Idol,” said he was hesitant to do the show at first, but he went ahead with it because he thinks this is the best group the show has ever had. He wrote on his MySpace blog that he only agreed to do it because the producers allowed him to do it his way.

“There are a few singers this year who are really impressive,” Slash wrote. “It’s the first time any AI line-up has really caught my attention. The approach I’m taking is different than usual on the show, and I’m going to make this as Rock & Roll an ‘American Idol’ as possible, wish me luck!”

Adam Could Be ‘First of What?’: Here’s a fun bit from TMZ, where “Idol” finalist Adam Lambert shows tremendous poise and turns the conversation back on a paparazzi videographer who ends up stumbling all over himself when trying to ask the apparent burning question: Could Adam be the first gay ‘American Idol’ winner?
