Tuned In: What’s Hot, Hotter And Definitely Not Happening In TV

Thursday nights are about to get a lot brighter with tonight’s return of ‘Ugly Betty‘ (8pm ET on ABC). After a few months off, our girl Betty is back and to celebrate we got showrunner Silvio Horta to dish on what’s coming up on the show in the last four episodes of the season. In his own words, “We have someone plummeting to their death from the Meade building, we have Rachel Dratch, who plays twins – Penny Meadows and her twin Mindy Meadows – their coming into the picture creates a lot of stuff at Mode. We have Antonio Sabato Jr. (I don’t think anyone knows that) – playing himself. Chris Gorham (Betty’s ex-beau Henry) is back, singer Adele is playing herself at the wedding at the Planetarium.” Wow, consider us sold – but what we really can’t wait for is more Marc and Mandy – it’s been far too long.
What’s Hot: Wednesday Ratings
President Obama’s press conference took over the 8pm hour (except for on Fox and The CW) and Fox rode ‘American Idol’ to a strong nightly win. CBS finished second due to Alex O’Loughlin’s guest star turn on ‘Criminal Minds‘ and a new ‘CSI: New York.’ ‘Lost‘ aired its 100th episode (and said good-bye to Daniel Faraday?) and was up week-to-week.
What’s Hotter: Million Dollar Password
OK, so it might not be the sexiest show out there, but who cares? CBS announced today that ‘Million Dollar Password‘ is returning with new episodes, starting on May 24th at 8pm ET. Regis Philbin returns as host, and let’s hope game show goddess Betty White is back soon as one of the celebs too. The show performed well for CBS in its run last summer and should be a welcome relief from the pending onslaught of trashy reality summer TV.
What’s Definitely Not Happening: American Idol
Although it’s still the number one show on TV, ‘American Idol‘ was down 10 percent from last week’s show and both the Tuesday and Wednesday episodes were down this week. It’s a bit confounding as the Final 5 this season are arguably the strongest yet for any season. ‘NCIS‘ and ‘The Mentalist‘ are making CBS a true contender for the title on Tuesday nights, and it has to be a bit worrisome for Fox to see the drop-off. Of course, if the anticipated Danny Gokey vs. Adam Lambert mano-a-mano finale comes to pass, the ratings could tick up again.
