Roker Gets New Gig, McCain Hosts The War, IFC Eyes Media, And More

Roker’s New ‘Weather’ Gig: Al Roker has snagged a new Weather Channel gig, as the host of the new hourlong ‘Wake Up With Al.’ The show will premiere in the summer and air at 6am. Stephanie Abrams will serve as his co-host. Roker will remain on the ‘Today’ show.

McCain Screens Films: Senator John McCain has been slated to lead AMC’s Memorial Day weekend marathon movies. The former Republican Presidential candidate and decorated Vietnam War veteran will introduce films that focus on heroes, like “Midway,” “Patton,” “The Longest Day,” “Hamburger Hill,” “Tora! Tora! Tora!” and “Battle of the Bulge.”

IFC Media Project: Former MTV Veejay Gideon Yego returns to IFC to host the second season of ‘The IFC Media Project.’ The series tackles issues such as the banning of the Al-Jazeera network on US cable channels, war coverage and African pirate news saturation. “How much of a good clean look at the rest of the world are we getting through American journalism — and, frankly, how much do we really want?” explains Yago.
