The Amazing Race Blog: Kynt & Vyxsin’s Pink And Black Blast – CHINESE FOOT & WATER TORTURE IN BEIJING
**********************************************************************************

Hello Everyone!

Last night’s Episode #10 of The Amazing Race took the Final 4 teams to Beijing, China to tackle Chinese Foot and Water TORTURE! We also have coverage of our latest Amazing Race Party, interviews with the most recently eliminated team, special news regarding Kynt’s SISTER, an update on Phil Keoghan’s “RIDE ACROSS AMERICA,” and more! Let’s get started with today’s BLOG……….

*************************************************************************
Episode 10 – Teams succumb to Chinese Foot & Water Torture
*************************************************************************

The show began with teams departing from the Pit-stop in Guilin, China, en route to Beijin, China. Kisha & Jen, being the first team to arrive at the Pit-stop in the previous episode, were the first to depart. As they rode to the airport via taxi, Kisha & Jen mentioned they were “over” the fight with Margie & Luke and putting it all behind them.

Soon after, the other remaining teams departed from the Pit-stop. Tammy & Victor were excited to hear that the next Leg would be in Beijing, as the duo speaks Mandarin fluently. Tammy also exclaimed, “We were just in Beijing for the Olympics!” — giving them yet another advantage on this forthcoming journey.

Margie & Luke were the first to arrive at the airport and immediately rushed to a ticket counter. Kisha & Jen arrived and got in line right behind the mother and son. You could CUT THE TENSION WITH A KNIFE!

Margie & Luke received bad news, however, as their ticket agent said they could not accept their international credit card and advised them to go to another counter. Overhearing this news, Kisha & Jen ran over to the next counter and immediately began purchasing tickets, much to the chagrin of Margie & Luke, who felt they should have been allowed to get in the new line before the sisters.

When the smoke cleared, all four remaining teams scored seats on a 5:10pm flight to Beijing. Tammy & Victor slyly used their Chinese Mandarin language skills to secure seats toward the FRONT of the airplane, and advised the ticketing agent to put the other teams in the back…………

************************************************************
ONE TEAM LETS GO —— ANOTHER STILL STIRS
************************************************************

As Margie & Luke, Tammy & Victor, and Cara & Jaime waited together at the airport, Margie made a point of filling in the Redheads on “their version” of the details of the scuffle with Kisha & Jen. Heretofore,
the Reds were completely unaware of the fight in the last episode. Overhearing the conversation, Victor tried to interject, stating that the sisters had apologized for the disagreement. Luke added, “I want them out and eliminated next. I don’t want to go to the Final 3 with them.”

Kisha & Jen then arrived on the scene, but chose to steer clear of the gossip.

It was good to see the sisters staying off the “drama train.” No matter which team you favor —– Margie & Luke or Kisha & Jen —– it is clear that BOTH teams made mistakes in the fight during the last Leg. However, in this current Leg headed into Beijing, Margie & Luke are choosing to keep the drama “alive and cooking,” whereas Kisha & Jen have let it go.

No matter which way you slice it, a spiteful approach to the Race is wasteful. At this point in the game…..it is VITAL for teams to concentrate their efforts on their OWN pursuit of victory, not the destruction of another team.

Obsession leads to Anger. Anger leads to Hate. Hate leads to Suffering. So we have learned from Master Yoda……..

Again, BOTH teams were absolutely to blame in the fight from the last episode. However, it is up to BOTH teams to let it go and not make a bad situation worse………….

The four teams arrived in Beijing and immediately caught taxis. The first clue of the day instructed them to travel to the Liangzi Jian Guo Men Dian Foot Massage Salon.

Cara & Jaime scored the fastest driver, who shuttled them to the Salon in FIRST PLACE, where they were confronted with a ROADBLOCK. In this week’s Roadblock, one team member would need to drink a cup of soothing Chinese Tea and then receive a 10 minute long DEEP CHINESE FOOT MASSAGE. Phil teased that these massages “walk the fine line between pleasure and pain!” At any moment, if the pain became too much, the racer could say “Uncle” to stop the massage. However, upon re-start, the Racer would still need to endure a full 10 minutes.

Cara volunteered to take this task….noting that she HATES foot massages.

************************************************************************
CARA GETS A FOOT MASSAGE —— PLEASURE OR PAIN?
*************************************************************************

Cara’s facial expressions [as she received her foot massage] were hands-down the FUNNIEST moment of the episode. Her facial expressions ranged from “utterly-terrified” to “urgently-orgasmic.” If you turned down the volume on your TV during the massage and just watched Jaime’s face, it would be difficult to deduce if she was in PLEASURE OR PAIN, just as Phil had foreshadowed……….

Cara even exclaimed at one point, as she gritted her teeth, squenched her eyes, and held on to the chair for dear life ——– “Having a Baby has got to be easier than this!!!!!”

Soon after, the athletic sisters arrived and Kisha volunteered to get her feet massaged. Kisha BIT DOWN on her jacket as hard as she could, to try to help distract her from the pain of the foot massage.

After 10 minutes of laughter, tears, wincing, squirming, and screaming, Cara completed the task and received the next clue, instructing the redheads to make their way via taxi to the Guangcai Natatorium.

Tammy and Luke were the next to get in line for foot massages. Margie had difficulty watching her son in pain but she also joked, “I really wanted to do this one and he jumped in there.”

The teams soon completed the Roadblock and made a mad-dash to catch another taxi. Cara & Jaime and Tammy & Victor had a slight collision en-route to a cab —– nothing compared to the now-legendary Luke-Jen collisions. Tammy remarked, “I don’t want to get in a fight with Jaime, she scares me!”

**************************************************
A DETOUR OF OLYMPIC PROPORTIONS
**************************************************

Tammy & Victor soon arrived at the Guangcai Natatorium, where they discovered a DETOUR. The choice was: SYNC or SWIM. In SYNC, teams would need to perform a SYNCHRONIZED dive off of a high-springboard
and hit the water at the SAME time. If they received a passing score from the judges, they would receive their next clue. In SWIM, each team member would need to put on a SPEEDO LASER SUIT and swim “across and back” a pool. Each team member would need to do this TWICE, alternating with their partner. Their time would be compared to Olympic Gold 2008 Winner Michael Phelps’ time of 04:03:84, although it was not necessary to beat this time.

Tammy & Victor were noticeably UN-excited about the Detour choices….as neither felt good about their swimming skills. The brother & sister chose the in SYNC task, and the two began to attempt a synchronized dive. Time after time again, Tammy & Victor dove into the water, but did not hit at the same time.

Kisha & Jen arrived at the Detour and looked out onto the water with FEAR. Jen especially was TERRIFIED of the water, and that is putting it lightly. They also selected the diving task, but when they walked out on their diving board, Jen backed out [without taking the plunge]…..stating she couldn’t do it and that they should try the other Detour option.

*****************************************************
REDHEADS SWIM STRAIGHT TO THE LEAD
*****************************************************

Over at the SWIM Detour option, redheads Cara & Jaime completed the swimming laps steadily…..conquering the task efficiently and receiving their FINAL clue, instructing them to travel to the Pit-Stop at the Drum Tower — a historic location where drums were actually utilized to announce the time of day. Cara & Jaime’s hearts skipped a beat as they realized they could potentially hit Phil’s Mat in FIRST PLACE!!!!!!

******************************************************************
KISHA & JEN FRANTICALLY SWITCH DETOUR TASKS
******************************************************************

Kisha & Jen now attempted to SWIM the laps…..again Jen was overcome with fear and told her sister they needed to switch back to SYNC.

Margie & Luke now selected the SWIM task……and OWNED it, skillfully completing it faster than even the Redheads had! They took to the water like fish! After successfully completing their Laps, Margie & Luke received the clue directing them to the Pit-Stop. The duo noticed the struggles of Kisha & Jen…….and happily remarked “Bye Jen & Kisha….they’re tough on land but in water they’re nothing.” [Note: We continue to sense a disturbance in the Force..........]\

Over at the in SYNC choice, Tammy & Victor sadly continued to fail at synchronized diving. Finally, they decided to cut their losses and switch to the SWIM option. Kisha & Jen now attempted the dive as well, this time making it off the diving boards…..but not hitting the water simultaneously.

Jen now began to BREAK DOWN. She was coughing and crying, stating that she “just wanted to go home.” Kisha was a great sister during this moment, encouraging her sister and giving her the love she needed in order to rebound.

**************************************
TAMMY & VICTOR FIND A WAY
**************************************

Over at the SWIM challenge, Tammy & Victor found a water challenge they could handle! Although they swam like little turtles, their persistence paid off and they COMPLETED the laps and the Roadblock, receiving the clue to the Pit-Stop.

*************************************************
A RE-CHARGED JEN TAKES A CHANCE
*************************************************

Re-charged by her sister’s pep-talk, Jen now decided to take on the SWIM challenge with force and determination. This time, both girls wore LIFE VESTS, slowing them down but definitely calming their fears! Kisha watched proudly as Jen completed her first Lap!

Kisha & Jen soon COMPLETED the challenge……as Victor STRUGGLED outside to get into a taxi cab. His calf was cramping SEVERELY from the swimming attempts, and he could not bend his leg to get into the taxi. Jen thanked her sister Kisha for not giving up on her……as Victor finally pushed himself painfully into the cab.

************************************************************************
CARA & JAIME SCORE FIRST PLACE……..OR DO THEY???
************************************************************************

Cara & Jaime arrived at the Drum Tower and lept onto Phil’s Mat….hoping to hear those beautiful words they had heretofore never heard. Phil smiled, cocked his eyebrow, and said “Cara & Jaime….you are the first team to arrive!” However, Phil SHOCKED the Redheads, as he pulled out an Amazing Race CLUE and handed it to them……stating that this Leg of the Race was NOT over yet….and that they were to RACE, not rest!

The episode then cut to finish. To be continued next week………..

*************************************************
BEIJING, CHINA —— TO BE CONTINUED
*************************************************

What a surprising finish to the episode! Cara & Jaime were elated to FINALLY hit the Mat in First Place, only to learn that this Pit-Stop was just “smoke and mirrors”…..and that the Leg would CONTINUE. Think about how long it has now been since these teams have slept, or eaten, or had a moment to catch their breath.

When you are racing, the Pit-Stops are your SALVATION. Finally, you have a moment to calm down……to wash up……..to relax…..to say prayers……to reflect…….to EAT A REAL MEAL for once! It feels so good when you finally hit that Mat and know you have 12 hours to re-charge…..we can only imagine how it felt for Cara & Jaime when Phil whipped out that Clue and told them to “keep racing.”

*******************************
FINAL ORDER OF FINISH
*******************************

1. Cara & Jaime [but instructed to keep racing]
2. ???
3. ???
4. ???

*******************************
OTHER TIDBITS TO NOTE
*******************************

*Every “Superman” has his “Kryptonite”! The seemingly invincible Tammy & Victor do have one weakness………and he is W-A-T-E-R. It was unusual to see the brother & sister struggling with a Detour like they did this week. Despite their difficulties, they never once “finger pointed” at the other. As long as the remaining two Legs do not involve water, this team is a STRONG “pick” to win!

*We have to wonder the severity of Victor’s calf injury. Was it “just a cramp” as he stated? Or did he tear a tendon? We will be watching him closely next week to see how this will effect his performance.

*For Cara & Jaime, this was their BEST leg to date. They competed like red-maned LIONS, blazing through each challenge without a single moment of frustration. Their teamwork and optimism was rewarded, as they were the first team to hit Phil’s Mat. Sadly, the Leg was continued, so they did not earn a special “first place prize.” C’mon Phil….have some mercy on these girls ;-)

*The sisters’ struggle with the water was EPIC. However, this challenge definitely shed a great deal of light on the sister-sister relationship that these two share. Kisha supported Jen 100% during her breakdowns at the water detour…….and helped push her through their darkest hour in the Race thus far.

*Margie & Luke……say it ain’t so! This is a team that we hold very dear. We have enjoyed their first place victories, their against all odds approach to the game, their drive to succeed. Please don’t fall into an “obsession” with your fight with Kisha & Jen. It will only distract your focus and lead to your downfall. We all have our ‘bad days” and perhaps the stress of the Race is grating on these two. C’mon —- we want to see the “old” Margie & Luke BACK. We hope to see these two race into the next episode with a fresh attitude and start.
