“Cupid”: Do You Prefer Jeremy Piven Or Bobby Cannavale?

Cupid premieres tonight on ABC, and stars Bobby Cannavale as Trevor Pierce, a man who may or may not be Cupid incarnate – sent down to earth to hook up 100 couples.

But if the series sounds familiar, that’s because ‘Cupid’ had a past life. In September 1998, ABC premiered the original ‘Cupid’ starring a then little-known Jeremy Piven as Trevor Hale and Paula Marshall as Dr. Claire Allen – a psychiatrist in charge of Hale. Rob Thomas (who later went on to pen ‘Veronica Mars’) was the series writer. The show only lasted for 15 episodes, but attracted a wide cult-following.

Bobby Cannavale will take over Cupid’s duties for Piven, who is obviously now too big to reprise his old role. Sarah Paulson will portray Dr. Claire McCrae – the self-help author and psychiatrist who ultimately falls in love with her Cupid wannabe. Rob Thomas is also back to develop this current season.

We’ll have to wait to see if the series will last or fall victim to the same fate as its first incarnation; for now all we can do is surmise whether Cannavale will be able to fill the funny and now infamous shoes of Piven, his predecessor.

Will he hit live up to the lofty role? Which Cupid will you ultimately prefer? Watch both actors portraying the same role below.
