What’s Hot: Tuesday Ratings

President Obama’s primetime nationwide address had the networks scrambling Tuesday night, and for the first time it wasn’t Fox that emerged as the ratings champion. With no “American Idol” to rule the roost, CBS took the night behind the powerhouse combo of “NCIS” and “The Mentalist.”

Both shows aired an hour later than usual to to President Obama’s speech, but they both improved their numbers from last week and pulled in over 17.5 million viewers each. “Dancing with the Stars” shockingly sent Denise Richards packing, and the surprise eliminated garnered almost 16 million viewers for ABC.

What’s Hotter: Secret Life of the American Teenager

Secret Life” wrapped its first season Monday night by pulling in a whopping 4.5 million viewers. This is over double the audience that tuned in for the CW’s “Gossip Girl” on the same night and tied for the series’ best ratings ever (for the show’s Fall finale). Amy’s baby was finally born and fear not fans, you won’t have to wait that long as the new season starts up again this summer. And what’s taking “Secret Life’s” place? The new season of “Greek” starts next Monday and look for some scoop from series star Spencer Grammer in Monday’s column. Things are about to get very interesting at Cyprus Rhodes University…

What’s Definitely Not Happening: Reaper

Reaper” grabbed its biggest audience of the season last night, with almost 2.5 million viewers up against the Obama presidential address on the other big networks. This was a big jump of over 30 percent from last week’s new episode, but the show is still most likely questionable at best for renewal. The CW has a lot of high profile pilots/new shows percolating (including the much buzzed about “Melrose Place” remake) so if Sam and friends are going to see another season, they probably need to keep growing their audience…and ask for divine intervention.

Wednesday Sizzlers:

  • American Idol: 8pm ET on Fox The Top 10 take the stage again tonight to sing for your votes and the theme tonight is Motown hits. Will Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey continue to charm and lead the way? Or will we see a shocking elimination Thursday night like we did this week on “Dancing with the Stars?”
  • Damages: 10pm on FX It’s the last episode before next week’s season finale so you know things are about to get all sorts of crazy (or even more crazy for that matter). How will Ellen and Patty reconcile their relationship after the end of this season? After all, the series has already been renewed for a third season.
  • Lost: 9pm ET on ABC Tonight the focus turns to Sayid, and how he got the island in those shackles. I think we also might see what happened to Nadia. Oh yeah, and don’t forget young Ben – he will figure heavily in this episode as well.
