Sam Raimi “Can’t Imagine” Making Spider-Man 4 Without Kirsten Dunst

We haven’t heard much about the next chapter in the Spider-Man saga, save for the facts that Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi are both back on board. Notably, we have not heard that Kirsten Dunst will be back as Mary Jane Watson, but Dunst-lovers can take heart: Raimi says he “can’t imagine making a Spider-Man movie without Kirsten.”

He does mitigate it a bit, saying “Of course it can be done because Spider-Man has existed without the character of Mary Jane but she’s one of my favorite parts and it would be a shame not to have her in the picture. I’m hoping she’ll be in it and I’m planning on having a story with her in it.” Raimi also dispelled the rumor that he’s working on both Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 to be shot consecutively. He insists they are only developing the story for a fourth film, with no thought to a fifth, and he gave no details – although he kept saying “villain or villains” in describing the directions they’re considering. So who would make a good Spidey-villain team-up? Rhino and Kraven the Hunter? Mysterio and Chameleon? Electro and the Vulture? We’ll have to wait and see.

In case you need a refresher, here’s how Dunst helped make Spider-Man 2 the best in the series so far.
