Here’s today’s news scoop:

Courtney Thorne-Smith Talks Melrose Place: Ashlee Simpson may have landed a role on the Melrose Place remake, along with Katie Cassidy and Michael Rady, but don’t expect OG Melrose Place hottie Courtney Thorne-Smith to throw her hat into the ring. “I think it’s really for the younger generation,” she said to E! about reprising her Allison Parker character. “I don’t think there’s much place for us old folks.” This comes after news that Heather Locklear may be in talks with producers to reprise her diva role as Amanda Woodward.

Gossip Girl Casting News: We’ve reported that Andrew McCarthy might sign on to do the Gossip Girl spinoff, but Cynthia Watros of Lost may also be in the running for a part playing CeCe Rhodes. CeCe is Lily’s mother – and a younger version of Caroline Lagerfelt, Serena’s Grandmother, in the Gossip Girl series…got that? Another potential castmember includes Veronica Mars’ Ryan Hansen, joining the already confirmed Shiloh Fernandez and Krysten Ritter.

More Stars Visit Idol: Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson have been added to the American Idol performance lineup. The star-studded duo will perform hits like “Heartless” and “My Life Would Suck Without You” on Wednesday’s elimination round. Past guest stars have included Prince, Mariah Carey, and Jennifer Lopez, among many others.

Jimmy Kimmel Explains: On The View this morning, Jimmy Kimmel told the ladies that “The only thing better than breaking up is going on The View right after you break up,” referring to his most recent split with Sarah Silverman. The late-night funnyman, who attended the taping dressed as Rosie O’Donnell, talked about the possible reason for the breakup, saying “I’m a 41-year-old man with a bra filled with koosh balls! I’m an imbecile. She couldn’t date an imbecile anymore.”

An SVU Medical Emergency Update: Mariska Hargitay, who last week was admitted to the hospital with chest pains, is “recovering well and is expected to return to SVU in the next couple of weeks,” as reported by her publicist. Her condition? pneumothorax, or a collapsed lung. Taping of SVU has generally not been interrupted because of this, but she was left out of one episode.
