Tuned In: What’s Hot, Hotter And Definitely Not Happening In TV

What’s Hot: Sunday Ratings

Don’t mess with Tom Selleck. Selleck’s latest “Jesse Stone: Thin Ice” TV movie coupled with “60 Minutes” and “The Amazing Race” lifted CBS to the Sunday night overall ratings win, edging out ABC.

ABC however took the coveted 18-49 demo win, on the strength of a special two-hour “Brothers and Sisters” event and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition“.

What’s Hotter: Jesse Stone

The fifth movie in the “Jesse Stone” franchise was a big hit for CBS last night, pulling in 15.1 million viewers and dominating from the 9-11pm time period. There’s something about this character (or actor) that audiences definitely can’t get enough of, as this installment showed a healthy increase from the last “Stone” movie- up 15 percent. Although TV movies as a genre are nowhere close to what they used to be, this proves that there is still success to be had in the format.

What’s Definitely Not Happening: Celebrity Apprentice

Despite Donald Trump’s inevitable claim that the show “is the number one show on television,” the cold hard facts are that the season premiere of the show premiered to just under 9 million viewers, a decrease of almost 20 percent from last season’s debut. Why the drop off? Dennis Rodman, Joan Rivers and Andrew Dice Clay all brought it last night in terms of drama, so this could just be a sign of NBC’s sagging ratings claiming another victim. Although finishing third in its timeslot isn’t actually that bad for NBC with all of its other problems, the network must have been hoping for a stronger start.
