What’s Hot: Thursday Ratings

American Idol” shook up the status quo by airing a Thursday night results episode, and it was enough to help Fox just edge out CBS in the nightly ratings.

“Survivor” Tocantins,” “CSI” and “Eleventh Hour” were all strong for CBS, but the Idol lead-in helped push “Hell’s Kitchen” ratings higher than usual and that was enough for the win. ABC and The CW aired repeats while NBC saw minimal success with new episodes of “Kath & Kim” and “30 Rock.”

What’s Hotter: Top Chef

Top Chef” just ended its fifth season Wednesday night, crowning Hosea Rosenberg its winner, and the show couldn’t be any hotter. The finale pulled in 3.74 million viewers and was the top-rated season of the series yet. In fact, the show was up a whopping 19 percent in overall viewers compared to Season 4. Bravo’s got another smash on its hands, and with the recent ratings success of “The Real Housewives of New York,” things are definitely looking good for at least one cable network in these tough economic times.

What’s Definitely Not Happening: Ugly Betty

Sure it was up against “American Idol,” but “Ugly Betty” dipped to some of its lowest numbers yet for a new episode last night. The show is taking a break in March to make way for new series “In The Motherhood” and the delayed return of “Samantha Who?” Speculation was running rampant that this meant the series was being canceled, and it can’t help to be dropping to such low Nielsen numbers just before its hiatus. If you’re a fan of the Mode magazine crazies, you better tune in when the show comes back in April or May to push ABC to renew the series for a fourth season.
