What’s Hot: Tuesday Ratings

All eyes were on President Obama as he delivered his first address to Congress, which took over the 9pm and part of the 10pm hour on the major broadcast networks. CBS rode the strong back of “NCIS” to an overall ratings win, while NBC (fueled by “The Biggest Loser” took the 18-49 crown for the night.

It was an abnormal Tuesday, as there was no “American Idol” due to the President’s speech, and many series aired repeats or even ran at special times.

What’s Hotter: The Biggest Loser

Where would NBC be without the “The Biggest Loser”? That’s a pretty scary question, as the feel-good weight loss show continues its climb up the Nielsen rankings. Last night, the couples edition of the show finished second at the 8pm hour, behind CBS powerhouse “NCIS.” The franchise has taken off so much that even trainers Jillian and Bob are now big celebrities, with book deals, DVDs, and inspirational speeches. We are a nation that loves excess, and that’s starting to stretch to what we see on TV. Now let’s put down the remote and do some exercise ourselves!

What’s Definitely Not Happening: Privileged

Perhaps airing the season finale of this critically loved but low-rated show against the Presidential address wasn’t the smartest idea. The CW was the only network of the Big 5 to air regular programming instead of the speech, and “Privileged” took a hit, dropping to a miniscule 1.1/2 rating. Those definitely aren’t the numbers the network was hoping to see as it decides whether or not to bring the show back for a second season. Yesterday, The CW renewed six series for next season early, and “Privileged” notably wasn’t one of them. Time to start the save our show campaign, “Privileged” fans…
