Still Waiting, the sequel to the 2005 hit, Waiting, hit DVD racks yesterday. In the film, Alanna Ubach reprises her role as the alcoholic and insane Naomi. Fancast chatted with her about this juicy character, what it’s like working with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, and picking out her boob double.
Can you tell us about the film?
It came out yesterday on DVD. Check it out! It’s Still Waiting with Justin Long, myself, Luis Guzman, John Michael Higgins, and Rob McKittrick has written it and it’s Jeff Balis’ directorial debut. It’s good and cute, very cute.
What made you decide to do the sequel?
I’m such a whore. If there’s an amazing actors attached I’ll do it. And I was like John Michael Higgins?! And we had a sex scene together so I thought okay I have to work with this guy. And I’m such a huge fan of Christopher Guest movies. When I saw him in Best in Show I was like who is this guy? He’s just so funny and he’s great to work with. He’s one of the sweetest people you’ve ever met. A really cool guy.
So what’s going on with Naomi in the second one?
Naomi is now a hostess. She’s actually graduated to becoming a hostess. So she doesn’t have to wear a uniform anymore, she now looks like a wet seal nightmare. She basically gets to seat everyone. She’s still a major alcoholic and she’s really jealous of the fact that all of these gorgeous girls are working next door at Ta Ta’s and it’s really giving Shenaniganz a run for its money. And so she decides to go over there and actually interview for a job as a waitress and they turn her down. They say that she’s nasty, mean, and there’s nothing sexy about her. So she’s just depressed the whole time. She gets defeated and she’s just angrier than ever.
Is she still just as crazy as in the first one?
Yeah this time you see my double boobies. Instead of the crotch shot now it’s the boob shot. It’s pretty crazy but it’s so obvious that those aren’t my tits. It’s really funny. We actually got to audition a bunch of girls without bras. So before the scene was actually shot I got to sit in on the tit auditions. That was really interesting.
So you have a boob double?
I have a boobie double, yes. They’re like these triple D’s. They’re circus tits. It’s hilarious. I got to sit in on auditions and watch tits all day long. It got to criticize tits, it was really wild. It’s so funny they walk in and we say okay show us what you got 1, 2, 3 and then they lift it up. And that was it. That was their audition and then they leave. The boobs I wanted did not make it in the film. They were these gorgeous 32 C’s but I guess a girl’s taste is much different from a guy’s. I like the kind of understated small nipples but the ones the got have huge nipples, big areolas. You know, circus boobs USA. They play music if you push one of them.
What else have you been working on?
I just wrapped Rango this animated movie by Gore Verbinski starring Isla Fisher, Johnny Depp, and Beth Grant. It’s got all of the incredible character actors like Harry Dean Stanton and myself. And it’s about this house hold pet that gets lost. We play a bunch of animals and it’s a lot of fun. They tried to film it like a live story board so we basically got to act out these characters. It was awesome.
Is this the first time you’ve done something like that?
Yes it’s the first time I’ve ever done that. Usually you walk into a studio and you do your voices. You never see the other actors you’re working with. You do your job and fifteen minutes later you’re done. But this was like a three week shoot. So it was really exciting.
You’ve been in some huge movies like Meet The Fockers and Legally Blonde. What would you say was your favorite role?
Meet The Fockers hands down. It was one of my favorite parts to play. I got to work with my favorite actors in the world. It was a dream come true; I hit like four birds with one stone. I got to work with Barbra Streisand, Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman, Blythe Danner, and Ben Stiller. It was really cool working with all those people at once. It’s like okay I got those kids out of the way. Not I’m up to Al Pacino and Meryl Streep those are my next ones. I was really nervous the whole time but they made me feel so comfortable. They were all so humble. They’re method and they make you feel very comfortable and it’s got to be believable that you’ve known these people for years.
How did you go about getting that part?
Originally they didn’t know how old the role was going to be. So when I first tried out for it I was just basically my age. And then they said that they decided to go older and my manager, who’s known me since I was fourteen, was just like she can play older if you gray her up a little bit. I have the coolest manager in the entire world. She’s my cheerleader. So they saw me again and we didn’t hear back for months. They were looking for all different types and then Jay Roach looked at the old tapes and called me back one more time. So that time I was just going to go for it. It was my third call back for a movie with Dustin Hoffman so I’m going to go all out. So I went to CVS Pharmacy and bought one of those box hair dyes and wore those leg panty hose with the toes showing through these white sandals. I dressed like a little old lady and did it all over again with reading glasses on. My acting coach Sharon Chatton and I just rehearsed the hell out of it.
You have Rango coming up. Is there anything else to look for?
Yeah that’s coming out in 2011 and I’m up for something for a series for HBO so please cross your fingers. I find out today. The role is a thief. She’s a con artist who dresses wealthy women and styles them for a living. So she hangs out with that entire crowd and probably makes 30 grand a year but lives like a queen by conning people. It’s really interesting. It’s a great role. And my one woman show, Patriotic Bitch, will probably be opening in Los Angeles in the fall.
