What’s Hot: Monday Ratings

A single dad is doing what few terrorists and unsavory characters have been unable to do in recent years: slow down Jack Bauer. “The Bachelor,” starring Jason Mesnick, was hot on “24′s” heels last night in the ratings as the ABC show continues its surge.

On a night that CBS aired mostly repeats, “House” and “24″ were enough to give FOX the win, but ABC was a close second due to the fantasy date episode of “The Bachelor.” And boy did things get steamy in New Zealand! I hope Ty wasn’t watching…

What’s Hotter: The Bachelor

There’s few shows on the air right now showing the growth of this long-time ABC reality show. Last night’s fantasy date episode that cut the final three to the last two ladies standing was watched by over 12 million people and continued the remarkable streak of increasing viewership every week so far this season. That’s a truly amazing and rare feat in the world of TV today where most shows debut large when the season starts and then tail off usually until the finale.

Is this ratings jump fueled by the charismatic Jason from Seattle as the Bachelor or is it just renewed interest in the series in general? It seemed as if this series had run its course a year or two back, and ABC president Steve McPherson took a bit of grief for the surprise renewal, but boy is he looking smart now. The show is definitely one of the highlights for ABC now and looks to be on the air for many years to come.

What’s Definitely Not Happening: Chuck

It looks like the buzz from the much-hyped 3D episode has worn off. Last night, “Chuck” dipped to its lowest audience ever with just over 6.5 million viewers. Yikes. Even Captain Awesome might have trouble righting this ship. The good news for “Chuck” fans is that the show still gets a lot of critical love, and is an online hit. But will that be enough to get renewed for a third season? Perhaps… as NBC does have a lot bigger holes to fill through out its schedule.
